An Ancient Future, 2 May 2023 - 4 May 2023 An Ancient Future is a sequel exhibition of our work Ye, Ghent Misses Ye. This exhibition is a meeting point of past, present and future and explores what we understand as time. We derive from the Ourobos. Or, in a modern version, two security cameras that film each other: circular time. The past always returns, today changes into tomorrow and the future is already in the past. The ambiguity of time shows that ancient doesn't have to be old, it can be new at the same time: past and future merch into present. An exhibition that archives a distant past and a nearby future. It consists of 2 triptychs, where the analogy of three canvases and a film (divided over three screens) share the same characters: the artificial, the natural and the passive. By analyzing the passage of time, we stumble upon the passage of passivity. The mammoth that represents innocence and sleep has no saying about his excavation, the actress has no will of its own, she's simply a projection of the masses and the machine is being used by humans, and without a mind of its own, being played with. We look outside the lines of the conventional concept of 'time' and present in detached layers of fabrics the ripples of time.
